a kite

July 28th, 2008
*written april 10, 2008. sorry it took awhile to post!

amelia made a kite at school. she talked about it for days. some of her friends had already taken their kites home, but her kite wasn’t quite finished. she was so excited to run with her kite as she had seen her friends do. she was so excited to have a kite like daddy and gramps do when we go to the beach. and finally on monday, her kite came home. when i got out of the van to get her from school she came running, yelling, “i have my kite, i have my kite!” “oh, that’s so exciting!”, i exclaimed. i suggested she give it a try. she threw it up in the air. i told her to run with it, run fast to the van, but stay on the sidewalk. she took off! her beautiful curls bouncing as she ran, kite up in the air behind her. it actually worked. and i cried. she was so perfect, so innocent, so excited. and this never would have happened if she weren’t here, with us. there would have been no mommy to pick her up from school. no van to run to. no one crying as they once again realized what a beautiful and special gift she is. i wish i would have had my camera. but i did have her pose for a few shots at home. here she is, with her kite!

wilbur turns five

July 27th, 2008

and other smith family news

wilbur turned 5 this week. can you believe it?!?

he came home when he was just 2 years old.

he’s tall, silly, and quite rambunctious. i’m told he’ll grow out of that when he reaches 8 or 9. i don’t know if i can wait that long! we celebrated his birthday with the 5 of us one night, then family and close friends donny and jennifer the next night. too many presents were given, as usual! but all three kids are enjoying them so i guess it’s okay. #1 present, at least in my book, a new big boy bike from josh and i.

he is loving it! and already asking when the training wheels can come off. at first we told him he has to wait until amelia masters her bike with no training wheels(we took hers off a couple weeks ago). but from the looks of things, that may take a long time.

please pray for our patience with this one. we’ll let you know how it goes.

speaking of amelia, she’s losing teeth at a record pace. i hope the tooth fairy doesn’t run out of money before all of her teeth come out!

the two front top teeth are missing, the two bottom fronts are growing in. and now another one on top is loose. pretty soon she’ll be on an all liquid diet.

here’s a few more recent pics.

the boys at wilbur’s party.

a very cool picture taken by uncle nate.

wilbur showing off the birthday card amelia made for him.

the whole smith clan at the birthday bash.

and three kids in the trash can (yes it was empty, and clean!). sometimes a mom just needs a break! (yes, ameila even strikes a pose when in the garbage!)

it is in

July 14th, 2008

but since josh, his brother ben, and his dad pretty much had to lay it totally on its side, we’ve been told we can’t turn it on for 24 hours. goodbye popsicles. goodbye reese’s peanut butter cup ice cream. sorry i didn’t eat you sooner.

the new fridge

July 14th, 2008

doesn’t fit in the kitchen. it fits in the opening where the refrigerator sits, but not through the opening in between the cupboards that are the entrance to our kitchen. the delivery guys aren’t allowed to lift it up and over the counters. they also can’t remove the old fridge up and over the counters. frustrating! so now i have a beautiful new fridge in the middle of my garage, and an old fridge in the middle of my kitchen, and three coolers bursting at the seams with food that’s waiting for its new home. rough life, i know, i know. :) hopefully we can round up some family and friends to help josh with the removal and installation tonight. off to do more laundry.

new…

July 14th, 2008

fridge! we’re getting a new fridge! today!!! here she is, expected to arrive sometime this afternoon.

they only have an inside pic for some reason. oh well.

i haven’t posted in awhile. i guess i should write about more than a new appliance.

we had a great 4th. here’s some pics.

little man didn’t like all the sirens at the parade.

and was very tired after having a sleep over at grammy and gramps’ house the night before the big parade.

he was awake for fireworks though.

wilbur loves to cheese it up for the camera.

we had a fun night. amelia really appreciated the fireworks this year, enjoying looking at all the colors they could make, and the color combinations. she got quite annoyed when i wasn’t paying attention.

more soon…
