after school at the smith’s
last week we brought you 8am at the smith’s. this week i thought we’d switch it up a little by bringing you after school. the following took place thursday the 29th. it was pajama day at the boys preschool. this is a fun day for the kids, but i don’t like the idea of them sitting around school in their pajamas and shoes. pajamas getting dirty just doesn’t seem right. the boys put on clean pajamas before school and then had baths and clean pajamas before bed. here’s what they looked like before we left for school that afternoon. cute and goofy as usual, with wilbur being especially goofy.

and now for the after school part. the following took place between 3:45 and 4:15pm. orville came home in real pants, not pajama pants. he had a potty accident at school. of course i had to take his picture. he didn’t want me to. so he told me he couldn’t smile. he insisted his smile just wouldn’t come out.

i see it hiding in there at little. notice he has his arms crossed too.

wilbur wanted in on the picture taking action so he posed with larry boy.

amelia wanted in too so she chose to show off her fancy fingernails. she loves this multicolor look. i supposed it’s okay, for a 7 year old.

and who could go without doing the upside down fingernail shot?

finally, orville’s obsession with my feet continues. he had out his legos, put three lego guy heads together, put a helmet on them, and proceeded to “check” my feet.

nothin’ like some foot lovin’. if this kid doesn’t become a podiatrist, i’ll die from shock.

“I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand.” isaiah 42:6
this is the scripture from my devotions today. wow! one sentence. just one. and it opened up a myriad of thoughts in my little brain. it made me ask the Lord, “why don’t i take hold of Your hand more often? why do i try to do so much of this on my own? why do i want to impart all of Your qualities to my children, yet i so often forget to ask for Your help in doing that? oh Lord, please take hold of my hand today.”

we went to see the tale of despereaux on saturday. what a fabulous movie! in a world where most of the entertainment offered for our children is full of selfishness and violence, this movie focuses on Biblical values. bravery, honor, honesty, justice, courage, decency, codes of honor, heroism, love, chivalry, friendship, nobility, devotion, and forgiveness were its’ themes. i want to see it again already!
and did i mention that despereaux is adorable? he is the cutest little cartoon mouse ever. in the movie, when he was born, i leaned over to orville and said, “isn’t he so cute?” orville said, “yeah, i want to buy him.” precious.

saturday night was haircut night for the boys. it was needed. and how wonderful that josh is equipped with clipper skills and patience so we don’t have to pay to have this task completed.
orville went first. and he asked if josh could make him look like papa. papa is my dad, and he is balding. he has been for sometime. and the boys think it’s neat to get their haircut like his.

papa’s hair.

orville, sportin’ his papa cut.

aerial view.

josh hard at work.

almost done.

wilbur’s turn. really, this personality is just way too big for this mama to handle! he’s just chillin’, leanin’ back, getting his papa cut.

and then of course he had to pretend it hurts.

what a nut!

and he’s finished. and he’s crazy.

and he wanted everyone to see his muscles.

after haircuts, we had to clip fingernails and toenails. wilbur does fine with both. orville does fine with his fingernails. orville does not however, do fine with his toenails. he sits still, doesn’t fight it, but screams and cries like crazy. he insists it hurts. oh please.
here’s some fun oldies.
these are from the first time the boys got their hair cut with us, june 2006.

i took my monkeys to see the monkeys
the boys and i went to the rainforest friday. we saw some of the neatest things. i should have written down all of the animals we took pictures of, but i didn’t think about it until we got home. we wanted to share some of the pictures with you.

we really love these monkeys.

they are always taking care of each other.

wilbur thought it was so cute when they hugged.

and then kissed.

he thought it was funny when they did this.

orville thought it was funny too.
mommy did not.

next we made our way the orangutans. they were very active. one of the females, kayla, was visiting with one of the zoo workers. he was showing her his iphone.

she seemed to really like it.

she reached out to him.

and she smiled.

the boys got in on the action.

kayla reached out to wilbur.

he mimicked her.

orville reached out to her too.

then kayla bonded with this lady. she gave me her email address so i could send the photos to her. she was so excited about their interactions, but disappointed her son wasn’t there to see. in this photo she and kayla were sticking their tongues out at each other.

then they made kind of serious faces.

then they kissed the window.

they touched hands.

kayla was very happy.

she moved away from that part of the windows.

she visited with her male friend tiram.

and then the unthinkable. she picked up a piece of poop.

and threw it at the window, right at the head of this boy who was waving at her.

yes, poop.

and then, she smelled her fingers.
it was hysterical.

and the boys slept all the way home.

that night, orville found this pile of wilbur’s clothes on the floor in their room. he yelled out, “oh no, wilbur’s gone. look he’s not here. we can’t find him. he’s all gone.” we found wilbur. he was in the bathroom. he had to go so bad when he was changing into his pajamas that he just left his clothes in a pile in the middle of his room. and orville thought he disappeared.

amelia excitedly wondered if her outfit matched. my reply, “um, no. nice try. go change your shirt.”

wilbur was on the verge of tears because his leg was hurting. ”maybe it’s growing and stretching,” i told him. after i held him for a few minutes, it was better. hmm…

orville was still cozy in his bed.

today
marks one week of no meds for amelia. so far, so good.
Lord, please continue to protect our little girl’s body.
